Many people are expected at Southampton this weekend to see the spectacular Tall Ships 2000, which culminates in the Parade of Sail on Sunday morning.

There are several ways to avoid the traffic for those travelling to Southampton to watch the spectacular Tall Ships 2000 this weekend, which culminates in the Parade of Sail on the morning of Sunday, April 16.

The two main event venues are the ABP-operated Eastern Docks (Dock Gate 4), open from 10 AM to 11 PM each day (8 AM-4 PM on Sunday), with a special Parade of Sail viewing area at Weston Shore on Sunday, 8 AM-4 PM. There are no public parking areas at Eastern Docks for visitors, or people joining excursions on boats such as the Balmoral. Roads around Weston Shore will be closed to vehicles from midnight on Saturday to midnight on Sunday.

Both venues will be served by a Park and Ride Scheme from the Bursledon Sunday Market site, signposted off Junction 8 of the M27. Buses run every 10 minutes, starting from Bursledon at 9 AM, Wednesday to Saturday, and 7 AM on Sunday (to Weston Shore). The charge is 3 pounds per person. Alternatively, you can catch a bus from the City Art Gallery to Weston Shore (Sunday only). City Centre car parks are free on Sundays.

Disabled people with valid orange badges can park in a designated area within Dock Gate 4, and on Sunday in Victoria Road car park, Woolston. At both car parks, Southampton Shopmobility will provide standard and battery-powered wheelchairs. For details of times and to make a booking, call 023 8063 1 263.

Southampton Central is the main railway station for the event. Buses run from the station to Town Quay or Ocean Village, both about five minutes walk from Dock Gate 4. For Weston Shore, the nearest stations are Sholing and Netley, both about one mile from the shore. For train information, call 08457 48 49 50; for buses call 023 8022 4854.

Southampton is accessed from the M3, M27 and A34. The nearest airport is Southampton Airport (Parkway), located next to Southampton Parkway rail station.
