British pensioners on a cruise ship used deckchairs, tables and ashtrays to pelt Somali pirates armed with Kalashnikovs, grappling hooks and ladders.

The MSC Melody was peppered with bullets during the attempted raid 180 miles off the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean.

Somali pirates are moving further offshore as warships patrol their coastline.
