MCA staff in second walkout over pay

700 members of the Public and Commercial Services union began a 24-hour strike at 0700 at the Maritime and Coastguard agency this morning in a row over low pay.

A coastguard earns just above the basic minimum wage – pay levels that, according to the union “lag significantly behind other emergency services.”

This strike follows the one in March, when workers staged the first strike in their history.
