MCA staff stage 24 hour walkout

From 0700 today, around 700 coastguards around the UK are staging a 24-hour walkout in a dispute over what they term ‘poverty pay’.

Speaking to the BBC, the Public and Commercial Services union said that “It is a scandal, quite frankly, that an organisation that’s got such great importance as the fourth emergency service, is running its operation with its permanent staff paid on shoestring wages.”

The MCA claims it is bound by government rules on public sector pay.

Affected MCA centres are:
Portland
Solent
Dover
London
Thames
Yarmouth
Humber
Liverpool
Holyhead
Milford Haven
Swansea
Falmouth
Brixham
Belfast
Forth
Clyde
Aberdeen
Stornoway
