Yarmouth's deputy passes diploma

A 23-year-old woman, who grew up in a landlocked Lancashire town, is celebrating after passing her harbourmaster’s diploma.

Charlotte Beeby (pictured), deputy harbourmaster at Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, gained the diploma with distinction, after a 12-month distance learning programme, culminating in two exams.

Ms Beeby said: ‘I come from landlocked Bolton. I’m the first harbourmaster in the family and one of only a handful of female harbourmasters or deputies here on the south coast.

‘Working for the internationally recognised qualification gave me a real insight into what goes on in other ports and harbours.

‘There are lots of useful ideas that will help make Yarmouth harbour and the Western Yar even more attractive to local boat owners and visitors.

‘The diploma is really good for my career. It helps me understand the different ways that other ports work.’
