Watson and Sunderland sail on

Sixteen-year-old Australian Jessica Watson is expected to finish her solo-circumnavigation in early May, taking the crown from 17-year-old Mike Perham as the youngest solo circumnavigator, and also one who hasn’t stopped. The Australian adventurer, who has been sailing for 171 days, has logged more than 19,000 miles.

But she could also lose the crown to American solo circumnavigator, Abby Sunderland who passed Cape Horn last week and who is five months younger than Jessica.

Jessica, sailing a 34-foot boat, is bearing down on western Australia- still has to round Cape Leeuwin and sail around the continent to Sydney. Abby, aboard a 40-foot yacht, is near the Falkland Islands off
South America, trying to repair her primary auto-pilot so she can get on with her Southern Ocean excursion.
