New York couple hope to set new record for longest time spent at sea

55-year-old Reid Stowe and his 23-year-old girlfriend, Soanya Ahmad have begun a non-stop voyage that they hope will last 1,000 days and nights. The New York couple left Shipyard Marina in Hoboken, New Jersey, aboard their 70ft gaff rigged schoonerAnnelast Saturday 21 April.

The pair aim to live away from land for 1,000 days, or just under 3 years, surpassing the current record of 657 days held by Australian Jon Sanders, who circumnavigated the globe three times from 1986 to 1988.

‘This will be my first time sailing ever, except for up and down the Hudson River,’ said Ahmad. ‘I haven’t gotten seasick – so far.’
