They face a French-dominated fleet

Three British girls hope to race solo across the Atlantic next year. Lizzy
Foreman, 24, from Worcester Park, Surrey, 28-year-old Becky Scott from Dunoon,
Scotland and Nikki Curwen, 25, from Guildford also in Surrey are to compete in
a male, French-dominated fleet.

The Mini Transat takes on average 24 days to complete, in boats just 21
foot long.

Technology onboard the Mini 6.50’s is minimal. Sailors race with only a
VHF radio, AIS and GPS. This often brings true isolation to the solo sailor,
who must rely upon their skill and seamanship to make it around the course.

All three of the young women begun to hone their skills in Yacht racing
with the British Keelboat Academy, a joint partnership run between the RYA and
UKSA, based in Cowes, the Isle of Wight. Later, one by one, the trio progressed
to the Artemis Offshore Academy, also based in Cowes.
