Abducted yacht couple's boat arrives in Portland

A yacht belonging to a British couple kidnapped by Somali pirates has been returned to the UK onboard the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship that witnessed their ordeal.
Paul and Rachel Chandler, 59 and 55, from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, disappeared on 23 October in the Indian Ocean.
The yacht arrived at Portland, Dorset, onboard the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Wave Knight on Thursday.
It comes as the head of the Royal Navy hit back at criticism of his sailors' attempts to rescue the Chandlers.
The RFA Wave Knight was alongside when they were kidnapped but the crew had not wanted to endanger the couple.
'Tremendous job'
A RFA spokeswoman said the Wave Knight, with the the 38ft Lynn Rival yacht onboard, had "returned to Portland as part of a planned annual rotation, which was a long-standing arrangement".
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said it would probably be for the couple's family to decide and arrange what happened next to the boat.
Meanwhile First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope said reports the Navy did not do enough did a "disservice to our sailors", during a key note speech on his vision for the future of the armed forces on Friday.

He said his team had done a "tremendous job" in its attempts to secure the couple's safety.
Last week, the Chandlers spoke on camera for the first time to warn that their captors were "losing patience" and could kill them within a week.
Their family made another appeal for their release after seeing the footage of them surrounded by gunmen.
The pirates have demanded a ransom of $7m (£4.3m) in a phone call to the BBC.
After the footage was aired, the FCO issued a statement expressing sympathy for the victims' families, but reiterating its position that it did not "make substantive concessions to hostage takers, including ransoms".

can i first of all just say how sadend i am to here about the chandlers. being a fellow yachtsman who is planning a trip like theres very soon, it really does bring it home how nasty people can really be.
im also sadend at the editors of ybw, the royal fleet auxiallay is not the royal navy, we never have been and hopefully never will be. i work for the RFA and im proud of my discharge book which all Merchant seamen hold. please in future get the facts right. instead of writing "royal navy rescues yacht but not sailors" you should be writing "R.F.A rescues yacht but not sailors".
its also ashame that the R.F.A comes under the sealord and mod, im sure everybody on that ship would want to rescue the chandlers, yet our so called government says we could of harmed them? if they dont want them harmed why doesnt the government pay the ransome??? im sure the ransome could be paid by all these speed cameras everywhere.

What a bunch of wallys! Sorry first Lord, but what has happened to iniative in 'Big Nanny's Navy'? Little wonder that these scum laugh at us, when a damned great armed ship is outfaced by a skif with a few native gunmen! Saving lives is a poor excuse if they are later killed by these criminals. Fool Britania!
