Raises more than £37,000 for charity

Ludo Bennett- Jones, aged 21, arrives in Cowes on the Isle of Wight today, Thursday July 12, after circling Britain in a 16ft Wayfarer.

He set sail from East Cowes on 28 April and has completed the 2,500-mile circumnavigation in one of the wettest summers on record.

Ludo’s boat has been sponsored by BT and in doing the challenge he has raised a staggering £37,000 for two charities, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and Sport Relief.

Among the legs he undertook was crossing the Bristol Channel, rounding of Cape Wrath and crossing the Irish Sea via the Isle of Man.

He will have been away for 76 consecutive days, sailing with several different crew members to help him complete the challenge.

Among those in Cowes to greet the experienced sailor were a growing army of supporters that have been following Ludo as he’s made progress around the coast and Dame Ellen MacArthur.
