There’s often a noisy distraction such as wind, waves or engine when you’re trying to use the VHF radio under way. The Icom IC-M605 Euro ‘s active noise-cancelling technology claims to remove background noise from both transmitting and receiving stations. In case you do miss the last transmission, it automatically records and saves the last two minutes of an incoming call. The unit also benefits from a 4.3-inch colour TFT LCD display with a wide viewing angle. There’s an integrated AIS receiver showing real-time AIS traffic and vessel information. It won’t transmit your position to other vessels, but you can contact them by selecting an AIS target on the screen and making an individual DSC call. It is compatible with both NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 networks, and has a numeric keypad and an intuitive user interface including soft keys and cursor keys, too.
