To the best non-sailing yachttie event of the season: the Old Gaffers Association dinner at the Royal Burnham Yacht Club. Many old faces there: Lena Reekie, Roy Hart, Pete Willetts, Nick Titshall, Laurence Jervis, Ray Austin and Brian Hammett, steadfastly standing in for the talk as the booked speaker had gone sick.
Also there was legendary cartoonist Mike Peyton. He is 88, but held up better than men each side of him who could give him 25 years. Maybe it's because a single cartoon of his auctioned for £250.
