Oil spill in Solent

People are being warned to stay out of the water after an oil spill in The Solent.

A Russian Cargo vessel last night lost 100 litres of fuel. The council has issued a warning telling the public to stay out of the water as the clean-up operation gets underway.

The oil leaked from the ship Anatoliy Kolesnichen about 7pm and washed up at Stokes Bay. The vessel is now moored in the Solent off the Isle of Wight and has had no further spillages.

It is hoped that the clean-up operation would be completed by 8pm.
