A news item in YM's December issue, entitled 'Feeling the Pinch', implied that Avon Inflatables would be ceasing production of its entire leisure range from early 2009.
This was incorrect. Alan Morgan, Managing Director of Avon Inflatables Ltd, said: 'Although production of the leisure range will cease from Avon's Llanelli factory by early 2009, it will continue at a number of sites throughout Europe operated by Avon's parent company Zodiac & Marine Pool, which means that the future development Avon's leisure range remains entirely unaffected.'
The production of Avon's commercial and military range of craft will continue at the Llanelli factory as normal. We apologise for the error.
Avon Inflatables will be celebrating its 50th anniversary at the 2009 London International Boat Show. From real life drama to Hollywood fantasy Avon boats have made their mark. In 1972, one of their liferafts achieved the record for the longest survival at sea when, for an incredible 117 days, Maurice and Marilyn Bailey battled the elements of the Pacific Ocean in an Avon Ocean liferaft after their yacht was hit by a 40ft sperm whale en route to New Zealand.
Most recently an Avon Adventure 6.20 was put through its paces by villains in the dramatic boat chase scenes in the latest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace.
