Two British legends meet

On the eve of the Vendée Globe, Yachting Monthly brought two legends of British solo sailing together when we went out with Mike Golding, a five-time solo circumnavigator, onboard Gipsy Moth IV.

Mike, taking a break from his Vendée Globe preparations on Ecover III, took the helm on Chichester's historic ketch and was amazed at how far - and how fast - solo sailing has come in just 40 years. There was hardly any comparison between the 53ft Illingworth and Primrose design and Mike's own Owen Clarke designed Open 60.

Wearing his blue Ecover oilies and trademark Tilley hat, Mike spent a couple of hours travelling back in time on GMIV and his observations are fascinating. Here's a short video of two sailing legends together, and you can read the full article in the November issue of Yachting Monthly.
